FAQ
IGP training: frequently asked questions
Short, direct answers. For your own dog, a hands-on evaluation by a qualified professional is always better than general advice.

What does IGP stand for?
Internationale Gebrauchshund-Prüfung, roughly an international working dog test. It replaced the older names Schutzhund and IPO in international rules.
Is IGP the same as PSA?
No. PSA is a separate United States organization with its own rules and style of protection work.
What is a BH?
A companion dog test that many organizations ask for before a dog can enter a three-part trial. It checks basic manners and steadiness.
Are IGP titles the same everywhere?
Not exactly. Each organization writes its own rules, so confirm what a title means with the group that awarded it.
Is IGP humane?
It can be when handled by experienced, fair people who watch for stress. Harsh methods are a red flag. Visit before you commit.
Can my family pet do IGP?
Some pets enjoy parts of it, especially tracking and obedience. A qualified evaluator should assess temperament and health before any protection work.
Will this site teach me bite work?
No. Protection work should only be learned in person from qualified, insured trainers.
How do I ask for a referral?
Use the inquiry page, which explains how a request to K9PN works. K9PN refers people and does not train dogs.
Did we miss your question?
